Day 3
The pen blank is remounted in the lathe and sanded with 400 grit and 600 grit. It is cleaned with acetone.
Two coats of medium CA are applied and treated with activator. It is sanded in 9 steps to 4000 grit, to a high gloss.
A tenon is cut for the center band.
A liquid friction finish of shellac and carnauba wax is applied and French polished with the heat generated by hand-pressure while the lathe is turning at 3000 RPM. The finish is allowed to cure overnight.
